Why do you think Jesus came?

"Now my soul is troubled, and what shall I say? 'Father, save me from this hour'? No, it was for this very reason I came to this hour.
(John 12:27 (NIV))

It was for this very reason that He came!

If you profess a faith in Jesus, what are you actually professing?

Are you professing that He simply came to spread love? Are you professing that He simply came to feed the hungry and heal the sick? Are you simply professing that He was a good man, or are you boldly professing that Jesus was and is the Messiah, the King of kings, and Lord of lords?

Are you professing that you truly understand the meaning of the cross?

Are you professing that through the sin of one, all were condemned?

Are you professing that you, as a part of this sinful, fallen world, are a sinner in need of a Savior?

Are you professing that you fully embrace His crucifixion as a necessary part of the plan to restore this sinful, fallen world to a right relationship with the Father?

Are you professing that you have accepted the gift of God's grace freely given through the cross to restore you to that right relationship?

But the gift is not like the trespass. For if the many died by the trespass of the one man, how much more did God’s grace and the gift that came by the grace of the one man, Jesus Christ, overflow to the many!
(Romans 5:15 (NIV))

If you only see Jesus as a good man, then the crucifixion is just evidence of society trying to keep people down. If you see Jesus as the only begotten Son of God, then you see the crucifixion and the resurrection as God's love reaching out to pay the price and rescue us from our sins.

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
(John 3:16 (NIV))

The choice has been, and always will be, yours to make. How you see Jesus will determine your answer. Personally, I choose to put my faith in His words, in His explanation.

What about you?

Why do you think Jesus came?
